Dorset Button Making

Date and Time : Wednesday 15th May 12.45 - 2.45 OR

Monday 3rd June 7.00 - 9.00pm

Why not master the gentle art of making Dorset buttons, they can add interest to an outfit - whether home made or shop bought!  Alternatively you can make jewellery from them in the example above.  The Dorset button has a long history, originating in the 18th century in yes you guessed....Dorset.  Originally they were made on a disc cut from the horn of a Dorset Horn sheep, which was covered with needle-worked thread.  Later, button makers began using metal rings as the basis for these buttons.

We welcome another new tutor to Granary Crafts, Wendy Armitage.  Wendy has been crafting for over 30 years, first picking up yarn and fabric as a young child.  She loves trying new techniques and crafts, but her main loves are yarn and paper.  Realising the therapeutic power of crafting, Wendy is keen to share her passion for creating with others.  These workshops are aimed at crafters of any level of experience,  Wendy will teach skills that can be enjoyed on their own or incorporated into existing projects.

In this class you will learn to make the basic Dorset button but there are many different styles you can go on to make.
